The other week I took my grandmother and grandfather to the Vice Italian Consulate to renew their passports. As I do everytime I leave the house i bring my camera with me. We finally arrive at the Vice Italian Consulate after getting lost and mistakingly parking 10 blocks farther than i should have. After we get to the office we are told that there is a kiosc down towards the other side of the building where they take passport photos,so we make our way towards the other side of the building. As we are walking towards the kiosc I find myself compelled to take a photograph of the corrador of the building, so I do. I think nothing of it,take a few photographs and go on my way. After walking across the building I can't find the kiosc so I ask this gentelman who turns out to be a security gaurd where the place is. He looks me in the face and tells me that for my own good I should put the camera away, i say ok and start doing so. He then retracts the statment and then tells me to show him the pictures on my camera, and i did. He tells me to give him my memory card and i tell him i cannot do that becasue it is very expensive. He asks me again in a stern voice and again tell him no! He then tells me he is going to call the cops because when it comes down to it he has no athourity. the cops come (notice i used Cops not cop) ask what is going on. I tell the officer the truth and he then asks me to show him my photos. By then there are 6 cops surrounding me as if my name were Osama Bin-Laden and to cut it a little short i am now being searched (for the first time). The security gaurd takes my camera into the back room and calls his superior, so now it is now beyond the cops hands and into their superior's hands as well. I insist to the security gaurd that i am only a student and that i took this photo for my personal use. My grandmother is about to have another heart attack and my grandfather is pacing around due to his enlarged prostate. They take my credentials and search me again, they assumed that these photos were photos of the structure of the building and they got scared and blew it a little bit out of proportion. By now i am takling with the police officer about cars and for the 2.5 hours that they detained me and my granparents the officer and i talked about driving Chevy's and Mustangs,to tell you the truth the officer was the kindest and coolest guy/cop you would want to meet. They ended up doing a background check on me and were a phone call away from calling home land security but they let me go with my photographs in tow...........thank god.
